Celebrating the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On January 16th, we are celebrating and honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King was a leader and activist who fought tirelessly for equality and justice for all people. Today, we continue to uphold his legacy by fighting for civil rights, racial justice, equality, and equity for all.

This week, throughout the District, there will be events to celebrate Dr. King and his legacy. We encourage you to look and find one in your area. Below are a few of the many of MLK celebrations across our district that you can attend this month.

• Youngstown
  • Mahoning Valley MLK worship service on January 15^th at 3:30pm will be virtual on the Price Memorial AME Church Facebook page and in person at the church. Located at 920 Dryden Ave, Youngstown OH 44505.

• Cincinnati
  • January 16^th Reckoning with Chaos, Creating Community—Starting at 10:30am 48^th Annual Commemorative program begins outside of the Freedom Center.
  • 12pm MLK Day Commemorative Program In-Person attendance at Music Hall (Free and open to the public). You can also watch the program online at www.mlkcoalition.org via live-stream at 12pm. The program will also be available online for viewing throughout January.

• West Virginia
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day Annual Family Celebration – Monday, January 16, 2023, at 2pm on Zoom and Facebook Live. Guest Speaker: Dr. Joseph Jones. • Cleveland
  • Monday, January 16, 2023, 12pm-4pm Ames Family Atrium located at the Cleveland Museum of Art for a free daylong celebration honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The museum will be open from 10am to 5pm, with activities and tours from noon to 4pm. Special guest appearances by Van Monroe, Hubb’s Grove, and the Cleveland Foundation’s Arts Mastery.

• Toledo
  • 22^nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Day Celebration – Monday, January 16, 2023, 10am – 12:30pm.The event is virtual and will feature Bree Newsome and Chuck Ealey. For information, please go to hrc.toledo.oh.gov and watch the Living The Dream trailer.

• Columbus
  • Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., weeklong celebration from Monday, January 23^rd through Friday, January 27^th.
  • Wednesday, January 25^th Keynote Speaker: Theo E.J. Wilson
