Workers With East Liverpool City Hospital Stand Together for Quality Care

EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO – On Thursday, December 5th, community members and workers with East Liverpool City Hospital will stand together for a vigil outside of the hospital today to call on executives from Prime Healthcare to bargain in good faith for a fair contract.

“Workers with the hospital are standing together for a fair contract that allows them to provide quality care in East Liverpool and respects the dignity of their work,” said Anthony Caldwell, Director of Public Affairs for SEIU District 1199. “All hospital workers deserve respect on the job and call on hospital executives and community leaders to bargain in good faith with the members of SEIU District 1199 WV/KY/OH at East Liverpool City Hospital.”

Workers will gather outside the hospital this afternoon at 4PM. East Liverpool City Hospital is owned by the Prime Healthcare Foundation and connected with Prime Healthcare, which is a for-profit company based in California.

“Every job in this community should be a good-paying job with benefits that makes East Liverpool a better place to live, work and raise a family,” continued Caldwell. “Unfortunately, profit-driven decisions by out-of-state corporations are putting local, family-sustaining jobs at greater risk which could impact quality care.”

SEIU District 1199 represents more than 200 health care workers with the hospital who work as radiology technicians, nursing assistants, respiratory technicians, ward clerks, pharmacy techs, maintenance and supply staff, and as licensed practical nurses.
