Workers to Stand Up for Children & Families of Lorain County Community Action Agency at Tomorrow’s Board Meeting, Launch Public Awareness Campaign

LORAIN, OHIO – Parents, children, people of faith and workers from the Lorain County Community Action Agency plan to address local media and then the Board of Directors on Wednesday, April 24th, 2013. The workers have scheduled a press conference for 5:30pm and will then proceed to attend the regularly scheduled LCCAA Board Meeting at 6:00pm.

“We are standing up for the parents, children and families we serve by calling attention to the attacks by Jackie Boehnlein on good and experienced teachers and staff that are working to alleviate poverty at LCCAA,” said Kathryn Ramsey, a Family Service Worker at the Lorain County Community Action Agency. “In my 20 years working for LCCAA, workers and administrators have always been able to work together to solve our challenges. Unfortunately, Jackie Boehnlein is choosing to disrespect the hard-working and experienced staff of LCCAA rather than to work with them to solve the problems facing the agency.”

Lorain County Community Action Agency CEO Jackie Boehnlein has proposed making drastic changes to Head Start, Early Start and Home Base programs that will displace teachers, reduce the time staff can work with local families and end services that help alleviate poverty in our community.

To support the efforts of the workers to protect the services they provide, the Service Employees International Union District 1199 has begun a public awareness campaign, taking to the airwaves with this radio ad:
