Strong partnership between employees and management key to fair contract, workers say.
Weirton, WV – Employees of Weirton Medical Center voted overwhelmingly in support of a new three-year contract that allows workers to continue to provide the highest quality care for the community while also giving workers dignity, rights and respect on the job.
“The caregivers and support staff of Weirton Medical Center take great pride in the care and services they provide to our community,” said Terri Tamborello, Administrative Organizer with the Service Employees International Union District 1199. “With overwhelming support for this new three-year agreement, workers stand committed to working with hospital management to do all that they can to keep Weirton Medical Center the beacon of quality care and family-sustaining jobs this community relies on.”
While the details of the contract remain confidential between employees and the hospital, the new agreement provides for annual wage increases, improved health and safety provisions and recognizes the value of organized labor at one of the community’s premier healthcare institutions.
SEIU District 1199 WV/KY/OH represents approximately 550 employees at Weirton Medical Center.
