State of Ohio Member of SEIU District 1199 Wins Grievance After Pay Raise Was Improperly Denied

In 2015, State of Ohio members, bargained a new career ladder for VRC’s with the agency Opportunities for Ohioans With Disabilities. A member was recently improperly denied the pay increase. 

The negotiating team obtained a 4% increase and won language that increased the pay for this position by another 4% once an employee becomes a certified counselor. This was a significant victory that brought more competitive pay to this important position. 

Recently, a member contacted the Member Resource Center, after being improperly denied the raise for becoming a certified counselor. Her certification was back-dated to before she received her step increase, which was a contract violation. The violation would have resulted in a total pay loss of around $17,000 over the next six years.

The SEIU District 1199 member contacted the union and the board that handles the certification. Working together with her delegate and the Member Resource Center, she won the grievance. The member will now get the proper pay for her credentials, which will make a difference of thousands of dollars.
