Mercy Health Workers Celebrate Tentative Agreement, Promise Continued Quality Care & Services for the Community

LORAIN, OHIO – Members of the Service Employees International Union District 1199 are rejoicing after months of negotiations have lead to a tentative agreement for the over 400 skilled service and maintenance employees at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

“This is a victory for the patients, visitors and staff of Mercy Regional Medical Center,” said Bob Gascoigne, an employee of Mercy Regional Medical Center and SEIU District 1199 Executive Board member. “This contract will allow us to continue to provide quality care and services to our community as well as give us the dignity, rights and respect we all deserve.”

Workers plan to vote on the tentative agreement on Monday and are optimistic that the new three-year contract will easily ratify as employees were able to secure a 2% annual wage increase, preserve their earned sick time and other positive changes to their benefits and working conditions.

“We look forward to working with hospital executives to continue our partnership for quality care and services at Mercy Regional Medical Center,” said Geoff Davies, Administrative Organizer for SEIU District 1199. “Union members at Mercy are extremely grateful and appreciative to the community for their unwavering support.”

The contract ratification vote will be held on Monday November 3, at 6am thru 9am, 11am thru 1pm, 2pm thru 5pm, 6:30pm thru 8pm.
