BECKLEY, WEST VIRGINIA – On Friday, October 18th, members of SEIU District 1199 and community supporters, will gather in peace from 3pm to 5pm for a candlelight vigil outside of Harper Mills, a Stonerise Healthcare owned facility. Harper Mills, a long-term care facility, is located at 100 Heartland Drive in Beckley, West Virginia.
Union members who work at Harper Mills are concerned that management is not honoring their contract. They ask that administrators with Harper Mills work with the Union and members to improve staffing and working conditions.
At the candlelight vigil, Clyde McKnight, a UMWA member, will address those in attendance. Mr. McKnight is a local leader and the Former President of the South Central Labor Council.
“Workers at this facility are dedicated to providing the best possible care,” said Leigh Ann Day, Coordinator for SEIU District 1199 in West Virginia. “Harper Mills must follow the mutually agreed upon contract that we bargained in 2018 and work with us to make improvements.”
